Inertia is the resistance of any physical object, to change in its velocity.
Just recently, I experienced a wakeup call that had a strong impact on my life. I realised that I needed to do more physical activities, and I understood the importance of doing it now.
I had made the resolve to be more physically active, and usually when I set a goal or make a commitment to something I get started straight away. This time I couldn’t get myself to do anything about it, there seemed to be no reason for my procrastination.
I knew that I couldn’t allow myself to become complacent.
When I was talking to my grandson about how I felt, he told me about inertia.
An object at rest tends to stay at rest, a person’s attention, thinking, and movement can be affected by inertia.
Maybe that was what was holding me back!
As I sat on my front porch looking down my path to the footpath outside my garden, I realised that I tend to take giant steps that can at times put my plans in the too-hard basket.
I was not training for the Olympics; I was just going for a walk.
All I had to do was to walk down my path and step outside and take a little stroll – a step at a time.
Maybe I was suffering from inertia the resistance to change.
The wakeup call had grabbed my attention, and what I needed to do was to rethink what I was attempting. I had to change my attitude toward physical activities.
I have ventured out of my garden, and thanks to my grandson, on my way to a more active existence.
Sometimes we are confronted by the good intentions from family and friends to look after ourselves, regarding our diet, exercise and other things that are good for us.
While we appreciate their concern, and for peace sake, agree to do these things but don’t get around to it. We become complacent, and it isn’t until we get a wakeup call, that we start to worry and the situation that was a chore becomes a necessity.
Maybe it is a negative inertia, and then it is up to us to take the first step.
So take a moment to plan the simplest step that is right for you and do it your way.
Turn that negative into a positive and enjoy the difference.
It is working for me.
